I don't know which smoker you got, but I've read where some think gas smokers simply cannot do a proper job; that you must use charcoal, or even better, use wood. I'd say, "Don't you believe it!" Our next door neighbors were given one of these for Christmas 2005 and had never used a smoker before. His first experiment was pulled pork. It was delicious and you could see the depth to which the smoke had penetrated. They also invited us to dinner when her parents were in town visiting and he had smoked pork ribs. They were as good as I've eaten anywhere.
I just have a big Charbroil Big Easy grill, but have been thinking of getting one of these smokers myself.
