Mice...hopefully no rats! new
      07/17/08 07:25 PM

I'm sure there are many here who have parked a trailer or motorhome in the woods for a few months, only to come back to it and see it is infested. Well, I have. But I don't want it to happen again. Let's face it, there is NO way to adequetly seal all the possible squeeze spaces for these pests, so what IS the best plan to keep them out and keep them from nesting indoors? I am planning on parking my motorhome on the property I am working on and want to take preventive measures if there are any solutions to be had. All I have come up with so far is D-Con placed on top of the tires, engine compartment, etc. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

The poisons are probably about as good a chance as you have. One of my brothers was living in his motorhome in a heavily wooded area and his problem was squirrels instead of mice and rats. They chewed up the wiring to his backup camera and did a lot of other damage. Someone told him to put moth balls in the wiring channel, so he did, and the squirrels carried the mothballs to a corner where they could drop them on the ground.

Your probably right...really been banging my head on this one trying to figure a prevention method. I even thought about the mothballs as well as a second precaution. I'm still hoping someone has a "all I did was spray or sprinkle this or that and never had another problem" solution. Where are you solution guy?

Mothballs will help keep them away.

Uncooked frozen bread dough if cold. Self rising flour when warm. Think of critters battered on the inside, plus is not toxic to you or any critters that may eat the dead ones.

The cats seem to enjoy the breading as a change in diet. Will work on any animal that does not have the ability to vomit.

I don't know if it would work on mice or rats, but I know of a golf course on the Texas coast that's always had a problem with gophers digging in the sand. At one time, they were giving golfers signing in pieces of bubble gum and asking them to drop bubble gum in any gopher burrow they saw. Supposedly the gophers would eat it and not be able to get rid of it and it would kill them. But then some of the animal rights folks complained about that being a cruel way to kill the gophers (and I guess it was) so they quit issuing bubble gum to golfers.

I remember that one, but never tried it. Not sure what one would work best now...asparatane? High fiber? Longest tastiness? Probably just the old standby of Bazooka Joe...oh with that sounds too violent.

No fun, change the rules!!!

FLEERS sounds more neutral, not so warlike.
