Scorpions!!
      10/03/06 05:36 PM

Any great home remedy to keeping these guys out of the house? I've already found two in the house, and if my kids see them they will never sleep in their beds again.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric, I guess I was 7 or 8 years old, living at the west edge of Ardmore, OK, when a scorpion got in bed with me. He got me 3 times before I got out that bed. And the only time I've seen a scorpion in my house since was right after we moved into a new house in '72 and I had a professional exterminator out there the next day.

Chickens running freely around the outside of the house seems to help us.
On the plus side, we get fresh eggs.
On the negative side, we have no lawn to speak of.

I had scorpions in my house when I first built. Not many, but a few and, to me, one was too many. I did a lot of research to find out what the best way might be to eradicate them. Mostly, what I found was that if their food source was eliminated, they'd be gone. I sprayed bug killer around the outside of the house and the inside of the house. After my first spraying, I still found them inside, and the spray did little to kill the scorpions. I sprayed about once a month, inside and out. I killed the source that brought the scorpions in, and I've seen very few since I started spraying. I also found a spray that works to kill them. It's termite spray I bought at Lowes. An exterminator told me the reason most sprays don't work on termites is because they have armor that isn't easily penetrated. I figured the scorpion must have that armor, too. But this stuff from my experience has worked to kill the scorpions. I haven't seen any through the last few months. Kill the bugs that they feed on and you'll eliminate the scorpions.

Oops. I apologize for posting this question/topic. I just noticed this subject was already covered a few posts below, by another Okie, no less.

Like below, I have also bought some spread for my lawn, and will spray inside the perimeter to kill out the food supply.

I AM FROM BRENHAM TEXAS AND HAVE BATTLED SCORPIONS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. AFTER MANY DISCUSSIONS WITH EXTERMINATORS WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT SCORPIONS RUN IN 4 YEAR CYCLES. EACH GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IN OUR BEST YEAR WE WERE KILLING 3 TO 4 PER DAY IN THE HOUSE. AFTER SPRAYING A CHEMICAL CALLED DEMON WE WENT FROM OUR 3 OR 4 A DAY TO ABOUT 2 (TOTAL) IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. I USED ONE APPLICATION OUTSIDE ONLY. WILL SPRAY AGAIN IN SPRING INSDE AND OUT. DEMON AFTER DRY TIME IS SUPPOSED TO BE HARMLESS TO PEOPLE,PETS AND ENVIROMENT. I PURCHASED IT AT ACE HARDWARE OR IT CAN BE BOUGHT ONLINE.

I too recommend "DEMON" (cypermethrin) a close relative of permethrin but way better for spiders and scorpions. I buy it in dry powder form and it is mixed with water and sprayed. It leaves no noticible residue or bad odor and is pretty safe for peple and pets after it dries. Curtain climbing rugrats are safe after it dries.

We have had several scorpions in our new house. Luckily they sometimes get into a sink or the Jacuzzi and can't climb the steep sides to get out (spiders do that too.) Not as bad as the prev post reported for numbers of scorpions but how many does it take to creep you out? For us, not many!

Recall how pest control companies used to put folks on a monthly spray schedule? Now they go for 2-4 months per spray because they have a way better longer lasting and safe agent, DEMON. You can buy it and spray it yourself and save a bundle.
