Butterflies, harbingers of fall and cooling temps.

I saw what I think is the first of the monarch butterflies passing by so high I was hard pressed to be sure. That and the first of the trees having begun to change color signals the inevitable slip into fall. Still running in mid to high seventies and predicted to do so for the next week except during any of the showers (20% chance 2-3 days out of next 5.)

Waves of Canada geese heading south is our seasonal barometer. The foliage change varies from year to year, but the geese are our signal that it's nearly over for sure.

Hey. Pete! Send those honkers on down. Last season we really enjoyed watching ma and pa goose raise three little balls of down into 7/8 scale models of themselves. We are anxious to see if ma and pa or any of the "kids" (Huey , Duey, or Louie) come back to us.

Keep those geese up there!!!!
They have taken up residency down here. They do not leave our area. They are not migratory any more. They crap everywhere, even places with no water nearby. We need a hunting season for them around here. Our airports have big problems with them.

We're lucky that they consider Vermont a fly-by state. I rarely see them stop in my neck of the woods.
