Go cart lost power
      04/12/07 08:37 AM

Go cart was running fine. Now it starts OK, but has very little power when the gas pedal is pushed. Any suggestions?

Best Regards,
Highsmith

Maybe you might need to tell us what engine it has, transmission or belt drive, etc. When you say it lacks power, I'm guessing you mean rpm, or do you mean it revs up, but doesn't go? The first thing I'd probably check is any fuel lines from the tank to the carburetor. Is there a fuel filter that might be clogged? Has a fuel line gotten kinked? Is a fuel line cracked? A leak can let fuel out, or it can let air in. I'd also be looking at the throttle linkage. If you go to the carburetor, does the linkage open the throttle all the way? And of course it's possible the carburetor adjustments (if it's one that is adjustable) have gotten off. Don't know if this helps, but it's where I'd start.

Finally got around to messing with the go cart. Here is an image: Photobucket go cart pic.
I got the go cart to start, but it would soon die. This happened many times. I put in new gas, replaced the air filter but no change. I took it apart to and got this picture. I finally thought to check if there was a spark on the plug so I put it back together and pulled the starter cord and there was no spark. I could feel the slight shock so I know it was getting juice. I will get a new plug tomorrow.

What should I do with the gunk in the picture? Is it bad enough to warrant more attention?

Best Regards,
Highsmith
