Attached is a picture of Sydney the evening of her surgery when they cut her ear open to drain it of blood and fluids.

Dave, though she looks pretty pathetic in that first picture she seems to have healed up pretty well.
What caused the problem?

Long eared dogs such as goldens sometimes have ear problems due to wax build up, they then rub their ears and shake their heads and sometimes break the blood vessels in their ears. She does look pretty pathetic in the first picture, she had just gotten back from the vet and was still under the drugs yet as she was put out for the surgery.
She is in good shape yet, she will be thirteen next month, we have had her for almost two years.

Interesting. I never knew anything about that condition for dogs.
Happy to hear she is ok.

Looks like she's doing well.
We had a small terrier mix that did the same thing to her left ear. I thought it was going to burst. Vet performed the same surgury. And it healed up OK. A few years later she had the same thing happen to the other ear. This time we just waited to see what would happen. It eventually reduced without surgury. But she had a wrinkled ear.

Stiches were taken out today without a problem. Hair is coming back. Ear not wrinkled.
