Fuel Tank Stand, build one??
      04/04/06 07:43 PM

I was given a fuel tank in good shape but with no stand. Size about 38 in. in dia. and about 76 in. in length. So after cleaning it using some of the methods in the thread in the automotive area I'need to build a stand. Any ideas on the best approach for a wood stand??

If it were me, I would use a bunch of those Simpson Strong-tie bracket's and built it with 4x4 legs and 2x4 cross members, out of pressure treated wood.

Alaskan fuel tank stands

I looked on the university sites that have lots of barn plans but I didn't find any plans for a fuel tank stand.

One argument for a metal stand is that in case of a fire the stand won't burn up or weaken and dump the fuel on the fire.

In either case a good cleared zone all around the stand is a good idea, especially if made of a combustible material.
