sick calf
      09/12/02 09:17 PM

I just got in from getting up a sick calf. I'm not sure of the cause. Just drouped ears and laying down. One of my best I was planning on keeping as a replacement heifer, that seems to always be the case. The bad part was that this was the week I was replacing the barn lot so I can't get her in the barn to give a shot of antibiotics. She was to be weaned next week. If worse tomorrow I'll call the vet. Dry here maybe a noxious weed or bad water others are doing O.K. though.

I'd get the antibiotics to that calf asap. When they get down like that they usually don't last long. Give some penicillin or LA 200.

Doc, that was sort of my thinking. But I'll have to wait until I either get the lot back up or or she goes down enough to hold for a quicky. Shame to see a good 5oo lb. heifer sick. Doc thanks for the advice and concern.
