Chickens plus bottle calves
      08/10/05 01:24 PM

In the same pen (25 laying hens). My fenced area around the coop is about 80' x 100', and I'd like to double up in the area with 4 or 5 holstien bottle calves. Neighbor said the calves could pick up coccidiosis and scour, but then again, he's been known to exaggerate things.

Anybody see a problem with mixing the poultry and bottle calves?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Bottle feed calves need to be in as clean a place as you can provide. Scours kill more than any thing else. Have you done it before.

Your neighbor is 110% right!! Holstein calves are the worst for dying. You need the absolute best facilities for them and even then they are not too hearty. Make sure and feed the medicated milk.
