horse problem

Hello,
I have a horse problem that I was hoping someone here can help me with.
I have a Morgan and she is 4 yrs old. It seems that the only place she will " go" is in her barn. She is free to go in and out as she pleases but will only use the barn when mother nature calls. Needless to say I'm tired of shoveling that much.. 
Is there a way to train her to "go" outside???

I agree with Egon, you need to change the environment a bit so the horse can learn a new place to do its business.

She is just looking for your undivided attention. 
Horses are pretty clever. Now, that said, when I raised a horse, I found out I needed to learn how to 'outsmart' the horse.
Maybe that is what needs to happen here too. I wish you luck and believe you can do it.

I found that my gelding usually does that. I think he likes the pine shavings, so when he urinates it does not splash on his legs. Is your mare doing a short burst of urine or all of it. If she is in estrus, I have been told they leave their scent this way...

It is not really the urine that I have a problem with. It is the manure.
I have tried the close the door method for a few days. It seems that once she is allowed back in she does it again.
I can not keep her outside for any length of time in the winter. It is too windy and cold.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tricks to break her of this habbit.

My horses are self turnout, and when I am in the barn and see them start to leave droppings, I start yelling at them and chase them out of the barn. Other people may have a better method, but my horses got the hint. They leave the barn now, except for urinating. My gelding loves to urinate in the stall....

Where do you live? Our horses are outside year round regardless of weather.
