Mother Duck & Eggs Strange
      05/11/05 08:22 PM

I was sitting outside the barn today... Our female Muscovy duck walked past
me with a egg in her bill. Went into the field & broke the egg
She looked like she ate it
Then walked back into the barn to sit on her nest..

Why did she do this? Are her other eggs going to be ok?
This is her first time being a Mom

I was hoping someone with more knowledge than I would reply first. My wife read your post, and she seems to think the egg may have been dead. I myself really don't know, but it sounded feasible. Critters are much smarter and observant than we usually give them credit for in many ways.

Our chickens do that from time to time too. Sometimes it's due to a lack of calcium, sometimes I think they just like to eat eggs.
