I've got a bushel basket full of various odd sizes of EZ-Boots and they serve a good purpose as a cheap temporary protector and are excellent for keeping medicine on / dirt off of hooves while doctoring but aren't for riding.
Now I see there are some better products on the market and was recommended the Old Mac boot for the barefoot horse that you occasionally want to take for a ride on a rocky or paved trail. They are expensive at $150 a pair so I'm wondering does anybody know if they work as well as advertised. Do they stay on, do they last, do they really protect the hoof?
I've seen quite a few people try and use them for riding and in spite of the literature they really are only good for an emergency. I would never use them to ride with if I had a choice. Being in the back country and losing a shoe or getting a horse cut they would work to get out but that's about it.
I agree. I dont think I would use them for trail riding.
A local Search and Rescue lady uses http://www.boaboots.com/index.html but I dont think I would. If we were going to do more trail riding I would take one to get my horse home or perhaps if I had to doctor a foot but I cant see using one. But maybe I am missing something.... Mark
