Chicken coop automatic door opener

Hi, I'm new to this board. I'm hoping that someone have done this already. Since my work hours changed and I'm not able to close the coop door at evening hours I need to construct an automatic door closer for the coop, timer activated.I would welcome any ideas, pictures and plans. Thanks.

You could spring load it with a time and a silonoid,.
You could use a satellite dish (big dish) mover arm to open and close a door. There suppose to run on 24v but will work fine on 12v.

Thanks for the replays. Gws, I like the solenoid idea. Since the chicken entrance door open and close vertically, I will use the car power lock solenoid pin to release the door to slide down. Hopefully the chicken won't find it self going in late....

There was an article in the last issue of "The Natural Farmer", the Northeast Organic Farming Association newspaper which had a circuit for controlling a linear actuator from a satellite dish to open and close the coop. It was a simple circuit with a light sensor which opened the coop door in the morning and closed it after dusk.

go to backyardchicken.com. they have a lot of automated coop ideas on there. even a whole forum on coops.
