When choosing a cow what do I need to look for in a cows bag/udder? Anyone know of a good site with pictures of a proper cow bag? Thanks

That question is extremely variable. Your best bet here is to find someone knowledgeable and go to a big ranch. Spend time looking at everyone and having someone show you what's good and bad in them. We've had what some people would consider poor bagged cows milk twins to 600lb. wean weight and big bagged cows wean a 400lb. calf. You also look at the number of tits that the cow has. The more the better. Most important though is that wean weight.

Cowboydoc, I don't understand the comment about the more tits the better. Can you explain this? I was under the impression that more than four was not necessarily better, though I have several cows with one or two extra. Thanks.

If you had told me three years ago that I would someday be concerned about cow tits I would told you you were loco.

Yes you are exactly right Egon. They are teats but I wanted to make sure that my point got across without saying anything more.

Yes Egon, we know that! I'll bet no one is confused about the message though.

Goat, once you are involved with dairy animals, you have to be interested in teats and udders. If you're doing it for a living, your life revolves around it, as well as the sex life of your animals, because obviously, if they don't have babies, they don't produce milk.
We raise dairy goats, and are establishing a goat dairy. We have to watch our goats copulate, to make sure that the deed is done. When buying the new stock, besides checking their lineage (all of our goats are registered), you have to check out their teats and udders. And when buying bucks to breed the does with, you have to make sure that the buck's parts look to be in good shape too.
When we get together with our local dairy group at the cooperative extension, outsiders would think we were all pretty strange when they heard what the topics of conversation often are.
