Bud's house, my project
      05/11/04 08:41 PM Attachment

So, as if building a new house and working a full time job just is not enough, we (my wife Dawn and I) found a horse we just could not live with out. So, I thought you might like to watch me fumble through making Bud a new home. We are building this house on the lot next to where we are building Bud's house. The house in that thread will be my moms in the near future, and we will build our house in front of Buds. Attached is a pic of Bud. He is around 17 hands, 1500 pounds and that is a 6.5' tall trailer.

This is a pic of the land when we got it. On the left near the horizon you may notice a pile of brush, this was one of MANY!

Then we had a bulldozer come in and smooth things out. This is after we went over it with a box blade as well.

This lot is 660' deep X 220' wide or 3.33 acres. Our plan is to make a 200' deep X 220' wide pasture with a (sort of) stable in the South West corner. It will be a 20' deep X 25' wide barn with three areas in it. 20' deep X 10' wide hay storage area with a 20' X 5' walkway between the 20' X 10' stable. This will be a three sided structure with the 20' side (stable area) open to the East. Eventually there will be a 25' deep X 50' long barn connected to and in front of Bud's home. The "stable" will be inside the fence and the back side of the barn will be the fence. Confused yet

The fence will be 12.5 Gage 48" tall utility fence with a single strand of 12.5 Gage horse (or barb-less) wire on top. 6" corner wood posts (with "H" brace supports), 3" to 4" wooden posts every 50' and 6.5' "T" posts every 10'. We will also fence the rest of both lots in the same manor except we will use 14 Gage utility fence on 6' "T" posts to save some money.

Here is the 850' of 12.5 gage utility fence, horse wire and "T" post clips (in the white bag).

Here are 50 6.5' "T" posts on the left and 105 6' "T" posts on the right.

Here is a nice pic standing on the back of the pond toward the back of the lot. The house will go behind the pond and in front of the first trees. The pile of red clay in over to the left hand side. The house we are building it just on the other side of the tree line to the left of the clay.

This was taken today, so know you are up to date. This will be a some what slow process, but I will keep you informed

That's quite a project, Waldo. And when I was a kid at Ardmore, my first horse was named Bud; an old sorrel gelding retired rodeo bucker.

I think it is safe to say that life has dished us up a full plate right now. I made a drawing of the barn that I designed all by my self

There will be a water spigot at the end of the walkway. The two round objects in the tack room are the hot water tank and an air compressor. The ceiling height will be 10' with a 4:12 roof pitch.

Remember, only the 20' deep X 25' wide horse area will be built right now.

From a different angle. I will take some pics of the almost finished stable tomorrow. The pasture and fence are still to come...

Here it is, not quite done yet. There will be rough cut dimensional oak planking to line the sides and front of the stalls. A 10' panel (looks just like those 4' gates) will separate the two stalls. A 10' gate will go on the left stall to keep Bud away from the tractor implements until the rest of the barn gets done.
