Got this little guy and his sister Sunday night. Momma doesn't want to feed this one, so we've got him in the house for now.

Gary, we bottle fed our 2 pygmy babies and they lived in the dining room for 4 months. Sometimes, it seemed that they would wait for a walk outside before peeing ... but
I've read of people in on-line forums that state they have house broken their pygmy goats.
For this I am very skeptical. Even so, they are so curious, they would trash the place in an instant, lessen you kept them in a featureless room. That being the case, why bother trainnig them. That's just moving the barn to the house!

Our is currently living in the bottom half of an old refridgerator box lined with plastic and hay. He gets out to romp a few times a day. He wants to play with the dog real bad, but the dog doesn't like to head but. So, the dog growls at him. Which makes him mad. So, now he's taken to peeing on the dog's bed. 3 days old and he's already got a vendetta.

What a beautiful baby! Congratulations. I have a pigmy and I think she might be pregnant. Is there a sure way to tell before we wake up to little surprises?

PregCheck? Offer her dill pickles and strawberry ice cream!
Baby anything are usually cute but I'm not fond of non-house broken animals in the house P E R I O D.
A few years back my vinyl installers (they have done other construction and remodeling work as well) did a couple jobs for an old gent who claimed to be Roy Rogers stunt man. One day he produced a VHS tape transcription of some old film footage and sure enough there were various scenes where Roy Rogers would gallop up and stop, this guy would get on Trigger and retrace Roy's path and do the stunt. The switching was edited out of the version we watched at the movies.
Well apparently he make a lot of money somehow (investments? oil?) and lived in a real big house which he left open and allowed his horse the free run of! Yup, a full sized hay burner as a house pet. The guy was in his 90's, quite "eccentric", wealthy, and that was that.
The last job they did at his house was after he passed away. They replaced the flooring and drywall up about 4 ft or so, to get above the splatter zone. They allowed as how they weren't sure the place would never "smell right" even with a new floor and new sheetrock on the bottom half of the walls.
To my way of thinking it is only a matter of degree and not substantially different to have goats and pigs in the house or keeping an adult horse as a house pet. I'm not a neatness freak nor someone who has to take a bath because I petted a dog and now it is time for lunch. Yes I am opinionated, in my opinion the inside of the house is NOT for barnyard animals. Dogs, I cut some slack if they show promise at being housebroken and don't have accidents or they are OUTSIDE DOGS. I do let reality intrude on my fantasy.
Still, I can hardly resist wanting to pet anything young and cute.
Yesterday I helped freeze brand, worm, innoculate, etc, 40 head of calves averaging 420 lbs a head. Some had long curly bangs, big cute eyes, and got petted by more than one grown man at the "doin's." I don't think any of them are candidates for house pets. The first time they will see the inside of a house will be in a freezer or a hot pan. The way it ought to be.

Pat, I don't guess I ever met anyone who had a full size hay burner for a house pet, but I did visit some folks once who had a Shetland pony as a house pet.

Bird, Did you think the sanitation of that arrangement appealed to you? Did the pony wear diapers? Did it whinny or paw at the door to be let out? How many accidents would it take before the charm of that arrangement would be diminished for you? Some folks with miniature horses put up with a lot of crap to accomodate their 4 legged family members. I don't like to see dogs eating from the table which some folks think is cute.

Pat, the time I saw it, the pony wasn't wearing anything, and I wasn't there long; don't know whether it was house broken or not. I grew up with a father who didn't even allow a dog or cat on the porch; much less an animal in the house, even though we had dogs, cats, hogs, chickens, cows, and horses. He insisted that even the dogs and cats be broken from trying to come onto the porches by throwing cold water on them anytime they did.
My wife and daughters finally got me to allow a dog in the house, and the elder daughter even got a kitten once and my wife allowed that in the house in spite of the fact that my wife still has a phobia about cats; doesn't want one anywhere near her.
And while I became very much attached to a couple of house dogs we've had in the past; no more. Our younger daughter has a pair of little white Maltese dogs and the last "litter", last year, was only one pup, which she tried to give to us but I vetoed that idea, so she sold it for $400. And last Monday another litter of 3. Yes, they're cute, and the parent dogs love me and they're right next door, so my wife and I can go play with them anytime; don't intend to have another one in my house.

Bird, I have had one cat, well actually two for about a week or two then just one which I gave away when the owner of its litter mate was upset when her's was killed. Total lifetime time as a cat owner was about 2 weeks.
I have had a few dogs. My first since I was old enough to actually remember it was a pedigreed cocker that would really hit a good point. They were originaly English bird dogs before the USA types ruined the breed. I had a couple Afghan hounds for a few months, mother and son. Gave away mother then later her retarded son. As a breed they are beautiful but the epitome of dumb blonds. How dumb are they? The breeders manually help them mate.
My last dog was a fawn colored great dane. A real fun dog. Loved to back pack. Carried his own sweaters and wind breaker, food, dish, and canteen as well as a rollup plastic tabogan when we camped out in the snow. What a moose!
Along the way I had a cocatiel that committed suicide, found it dead with its head wedged in the bars at the bottom of the cage. I had a double yellow headed amazon parrot that I got when it was shot out of a tree with a pellet gun (not by me, I just treated it and took care of it). I did what I could but it never was a strong flier after that. We kept it for years and then gave it to a lady with another parrot that was in love with ours. She parrot sat for us when we took extended sialing trips and the two fell in love and refused to be separated. they woild go beserk if yo tried to get them apart and they weren't even the same species, go figure. Anyway when we moved onto our sailboat we gave it to her.
I kept a horned owl for several months and raised rats to feed it live food. relesed it in mountains when it was ready (had been in captivity and a wing had been trimmed, again not by me.
I have had tropical fish too but now the closest things I have to pets are the wild birds we feed, deer, turkey and squirrels we feed. I like it this way for a while. May get a dog after the house is finished but maybe not, we'll see.
Oh, and I have lots of fish and turtles and frogs and stuff in my ponds!

The vet can do an ultra sound, but that costs. Otherwise, all you can do is watch her to see if she is putting on weight or making a bag. If she's starting to bag up that's a pretty sure sign. You also might be able to see the younguns kicking. Don't know too much about the little ones, we've only got the full sized gals, but if it works the same, expect the worst possible weather for delivery.

Daughter April the Mighty Goat Rancher [MGR]has her first 2 Alpine doelings out of her herd queen. Very nice little critters, they'll be in the house in a converted baby pen until they get too rambunctious. We take them from the mom, bottle feed, keep them in the house until they're too rambunctious.
The first one came about 7, was very large, pretty light grey color, and the girls had her hopping around outside in a couple hours. About 11 I heard wife calling over the intercom for help, went out, and there she was with another one. She thought because it was so late, and a breech, it would be dead, but it came out very lively, a little smaller, and hungry. Had some trouble bleeding from the cord, and that took some time to figure out. The club goat advisor came over and they wrapped the cord with dental floss, and the doe is thriving, smells like mint dental floss! In our search for something to clamp the cord, considered vice grips[too heavy], hair berets, I was even wondering about the castrator bands as I frantically rummaged through the goat care kits. Made a mental note to urge the MGR to get the medical supplies organized more carefully.
Hope to have pictures to post soon-daughters had fun taking the first little one out and making daisy chains necklaces for her, she did the Bambi thing. Long legged little critter, back legs take a while to limber up after being cramped up inside mommy. All this before we even knew she had a sister. We were kind of fooled because she was an 11 pounder, looonnngg drink of water. Sister is smaller, still an active, healthy 8 pounder.
There was another undeveloped fetus, very small, the mother ate it with the afterbirth. Wife wanted to keep it for informational purposes, but the goat got it first. Strange universe...
Daughter April was doing yard work for a friend when the second one came along, so she had a very pleasant surprise.
Mom and daughters had to go to a big Awana Bible club sports thingy today, and the babies had to go along. Guess that will be a little different for the big shindig!
John
