Apple leaves and goats
      11/13/03 09:22 AM

We're getting another two Nubian does in a week or two, and we'll be breeding them right away. We need to set up another goat pen, and the area we have in mind has some apple saplings near it. I know cherry leaves are poisonous, as they have cyanide in them. I think apple leaves aren't harmful to goats. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks!!

Rich

Not sure on that one. They don't hurt deer. (Wish they did )

Amen to that! But the deer chewed on my sweet cherry too!

Most hardstone fruits (i.e. fruits with pits) have cyanide in the pits. See the note for Wild Cherry.

Apples and apple leaves are not listed in the Plants Poisonous to Livestock and Pets

My dairy farm neighbor told me that the cherry leaves are only poisonous when they are wilting.. when they are fresh on the tree or dried up they aren't.
