New ramlet joins the flock

Fudge Baaa and Bunni, our two Icelandic ewe lambs, have been doing their best to consume Vermont's fall foliage. The saplings are bare from the ground up three feet, and the smaller ones are stripped clean from the sheep "walking them down" to reach the leaves on top. Fudge, while not exactly tame, is curious enough to come check us out when we enter the pen, and tolerant enough to permit us to scratch her. Bunni is a hopelessly paranoid little lamb.
But this past Sunday we went to the Vermont Sheep and Wool Expo in the Big City (Burlington) and came home with a ram lamb named Charlie. Charlie is very cool, and the ewes just love him. And since Charlie comes running up to us, the girls do too.
So it looks like Tamara and I share yet another hobby!
Pete

Gee, that would require that I be home at least for a few minutes when the sun is up. Ramping up for the holiday season is all-consuming. Ahhhggghh!

My wife is all excited about "growing her own" wool supply. Looks like an awful lot of work to me! Personally, I like the sheep because they do a fine job "mowing" in the wet parts of the field where Clementine leaves deep ruts. And they make my hands feel so good!

Thanks for the pictures, fine looking flock!
Yer right, converting "sweaters on the hoof" to the real thing is a LOT of work. I took a few fleeces out to be washed and carded into roving when I first got my flock. They're still in the attic waiting on Mrs. Fawteen to "get around" to learning to spin.
I've had more luck selling raw fleeces to city folks who want to do that sort of thing. Personally, I ain't got the time.
And you're also right about the hands thing. Raw lanolin right from the sheep is the finest hand cream there is. In fact, I think I'll trot down and get a dose right now...
