Getting Burdock out of horses manes and tails

I thought I got rid of all of the burdock in my pasture, but I missed a spot, and naturally the horses got into it. They most have rolled around in it, because they have it throughout their manes and tails. In fact, Rosie looks like a unicorn, her forlocks are sticking straight out because of all the burdock.
Does anyone have a trick for making this grooming nightmare easier???

Rich,
I've mainly used brute force with fingers(ouch) and combs, but I have read that you can use mineral oil or cooking oil to make it easier. Of course, there's always the clippers.

I wouldn't use mineral or cooking oil. It dries out the hair. The best thing to use is baby oil. It keeps the hair moist and won't let it break off. Also Absorbine ShowSheen works very well. You want to spray it in and let it dry though. Don't try and comb it wet though.
