I have 5 acres that was logged about 8 years ago. The land is mostly blackberry bushes and brush. I am looking for a type of plant to make a barrier along about a half of a mile of road. I want it to be evergreen so it will be effective in winter. I live in the pacific northwest in Washington state and my land is mostly level and lots of clay.

Check Natal Plum to see if it will survive in yor climate zone. It ahs pretty foliage, edible fruit, and HUGE THORNS. It make a beautiful ornamental as well as a means of directing foot traffic. I have seen it used to keep pedestrians on the sidewalks at some Government buildings and post offices.

I looked it up and it starts to get foliage damage at 28F and greater damage at 24 F. Too bad. Maybe honey locust!
