Restless Leg Syndrome and Home Remedies

Hi all,
Unfortunately, I'm one of many who suffer from RLS and my Doctor has given me prescriptions for different medicines, but just haven't found the "magic bullet" yet.
However, by accident, I found something that seems to make the RLS a little less severe...diet root beer. This past weekend my grandson, 8 yr.s old, was visiting. Towards the end of the day he wanted to play some games on my computer and also ask for a soda. My wife gave him a root beer, but she forgot it was a diet soda. So, of course being a "diet" anything, the grandson didn't want it and just set it aside.
When I went to my computer there was this bottle of soda sitting on my desk and I just couldn't see throwing a full bottle away. Got some ice and had me a root beer. And shortly there after, I went to bed.
That night I didn't seem to be bothered as much with RLS and when I thought about it the next day I remembered the root beer. Will be mentioning this to my Dr. at the next visit. Yes, I'm still taking the medicine he prescribed, but as I mentioned, RLS is one of those mean buggers that don't respond the same to any given medicine.
So, after doing a little research about the medicinal values of root beer, I find there are many variations of root beer, but the one common ingredient seems to be sassafras. Hmmm, seems to me I've heard about the medicinal aspects of sassafras before. Wonder if this is another one of those wonderful things our grandparents knew about but is now gone forever, because it couldn't be "scientifically proven".
Don't get me wrong, I love science, I just don't like the, "it can't be scentifically proven" attitude at times. The only thing that means is, we just haven't developed the proper tools to fully understand or appreciate what's being dismissed.
Anyhow, back to root beer. Has anyone else have any home remedy suggestions for RLS? As a matter of curiosity, does anyone know of a "Home Remedy" type of site? Another instance of a home remedy, that proved to be benefical to us, was from "TractorByNet". My wife used to get poison ivy real bad. It was like me wearing a white shirt to an Italian resturant; just walk through the door and I would attract tomato sauce stains! With her, it seemed like all she had to do was walk down to the mailbox and she'd get poison ivy! But then I read about cashews and poison ivy on TBN and now, even though she can still get it, it doesn't seem as severe or last long.
Again, this is the kind of information that I would really like to know about, and even though the web is available, you have to know what to look for first, and I would have never thought about root beer and RLS nor cashews and pison ivy!?

Don't know about RLS but I tend to get leg cramps at night and I found that if I drink one gator aide a day I don't get them. I think it is the potassium in the gator aide

A banana will supply cramp fighting dose of potassium too but without the excessive sodium in the gator juice.
Now if you are perspiring heavily (like I do in our recent 100 degree heat with high humidity) the gator juice won't overload you with sodium which may be needed.
To the OP:
You can buy sassafras bark (I think it is taken from the bark of the root) and use it to brew tea which will deliver a heck of a lot more of what you are looking for than a root beer. I love root beer and used to make my own with store bought root beer extract.
Apple cider/juice heated to brew sassafras tea is also quite tasty and delivers the goods sassafras wise.

Milk YUKKKKKKK. If I drank a glass of milk I would puke my guts out in 15 minutes. Single Malt works better.

If you consider the ingredients of a single malt what with all the ice cream and such you get the equivalent of a couple glasses of milk! Two malts (double malt) is even more so.
I suppose you survived the cold snap and are glad to be back to normal temps there at Graveyard... uh Graveside.. oh yeah Tombstone! I knew it was one of those Halloweenish things.

Hey plowboy welcome to the site. Some of these post are kinda old. But I only take my quinine with Gin just like the the brits did to prevent malaria back in the old days. The original gin and tonic was actually gin to cut the horrible taste of quinine which helped to reduce the systems of malaria but not prevent it. There is a fancy word for that but in my old age I forgets.
Reference your post in the 'Most obnoxious site ' You only get treated that way if you appoint yourself the worlds expert and then tell everyone else they don't know dink.
So tell us abut yourself. I live in the ghost town of Gleeson Az (Google it ). Ain't got no neighbors and love it. I am a self appointed expert on guns, horses, tractors, and women.
6000 ft msl and 6 miles from home. What the heck a I doing here?

Thats sounds like something I would like.
I'm retired deputy sheriff, 30 years on the job. Now currently a tree farmer. I'm serious , I bought some land way out in the boonies loaded with trees and I am doing a 15-20 year forestry program to bring them to market.
Most of the time I am fighting land erosion on my property and culling less than desirable trees, cutting grape vine , making firewood -- stuff like that . Gives me an excuse to be out in the woods
I am former SWAT so I expect we will be disagreeing about guns and ammo
Thats about it , just a regulat joe I guess.

That's quite possible. I retired a couple of months short of 25 years, the last 13 as a captain in the Dallas Police Department, and I disagreed with some on the department, as well as the FBI firearms instructor when I went to the FBI National Academy. However, since I'm retired and almost never use a firearm anymore, I don't disagree with what others do as long as my life doesn't depend on what they're using.

Well hey cousin. Another retired Law enforcement officer. I am retired (Sergeant) from and still in Ohio .
Small world. As far as the guns and ammo goes - to each their own.
Anyway seems like a nice board, hope to pass some cold winter nights posting with you all. and exchanging ideas .
Going to be real busy this fall cutting wood as all I have in my get away shack is a wood stove for heat.
Looking to get some oil /gas guy interested and having a gas well drilled on the back forty where I don't think I'd mine a well and tanks. For the free gas and royalties .
