Actually, I thought some of the comments made toward CORDWOODGUY were a little harsh. He got flamed pretty good. Some people questioned some stuff and,in the process derided his "expertise" but I think he brought some of that on himself by thumping his own chest so much with his experience, which I will not take anything away from. (He's certainly got more than me in that area).
I do enjoy this board, but decided to count the ones I visit and its over 30 (various car, home, building, engineering, tractor, horse, IT, news, politics, etc.) some more frequently than others. I don't consider myself a major board surfer, so I guess it's possible that someone that is retired and spends most of their day surfing could hit over a hundred. It's irrelevant to me anyway.
I try and separate the "wheat from the chaff" on most things I read on boards anyway. I wouldn't call his post "absurd", however, just a little venting. I've seen worse on other boards. On many boards, I just ignore posts by people whose previous posts have not interested me or I considered obnoxious, trivial, whatever. Kind of like watching TV. There's lots of crap that I complain about and my daughter just says "Don't watch it then". (Smart girl)
Anyway, a belated WELCOME to CORDWOODGUY!

I have been busy with spring work, so I do not have time for the boards much this time of year, it is to bad, I must of missed something somewhere.
I did not realize that this place was full of a bunch of people who picked on the handicapped web surfers.
During the winter, even with nothing else to do, I have a hard time trying to keep up with three or four boards. So more power to anyone that can handle hundreds and post on thousands of sites.

All this energy spent on this thread because this guy demands to be recognised as the leading authority on what.... cord wood ?
I thought cord wood was what you used to stoke up the wood stove to keep your house warm ?
Yea I see a lot of chest beating going on and it still boils down to credibility and respect. This being the Internet, anyone can claim to be anything including full of BS.
Maybe if you relaxed a little and choose not to get offended whenever someone challenges what you say, just because you said so. Your ego is over shadowing your knowledge of whatever it is your supposedly an expert on.
One thing can be said about any website and that is every man or woman is equal. Being handicapped only counts if your in a speed typing contest and your one handed and I personally will treat you as I would anyone else 
I will welcome you to the board, but at the same time I'm going to suggest that if you're going to tell someone they are wrong, be nice about it and show some proof to backup what your saying and I'm NOT talking about something you wrote on another site. 
One more thing, I understand the sight thing, however using caps IS considered shouting on the Internet. With this said, you can can click on your control settings and change your fonts and the accessibility setting to high contrast for easy reading.... just a thought.

Now don't get angry with me, but what I don't understand is how YOU writing in caps helps with your disability.
If WE all wrote in caps it would make more sense.
Frankly I don't care who writes in what, and I have been to some sites where I was jumped on from day one. I would rather DIE than let them know it bothered me.

the only thing that bothers me about writing in all caps is that it's tedious to read. writing in all lower case also sets my teeth on edge.

YEAH, All caps is for emphasis only!
I too don't like all lower case.
There is a reason why conventions were adopted for upper and lower and the need continues and continues to be met by most sentient writers.
If you aren't a cockroach trying to use a type writer (you know the literary character to whom I refer) and can't easily manage the shift key then maybe lower case would be tolerated if the literary content (such as Archy's verse) was worth the trouble.
I wondered why the little typist didn't jump on the caps lock to get a capital letter and then jump on it again to release it. Oh well, sometimes it is just better to suspend disbelief and critical thinking to go with the flow of the story.

You guys tickle me to death.
I'm about a hair's breadth away from throwing my tent in the back of my truck and heading north, and just seeing where I end up when I run out of gas. I think Florida is about to retire from being the retirement center of the US, things are gettin' a little scary here.
Taxes are high, tourism is low, real estate is sitting empty. Texas and Tennessee seem to be the new hot places to go live out the golden years. I just got laid off, (construction related) and have no real plans for how to rectify the situation. Life will provide, I know that, but in the mean time, I'm as jumpy as a jack rabbit in a rattlesnake den.
Just stuff, you know. It'll pass.

Sorry to hear about work.  But as you said something will come along.
Up here in the Frozen North things are not all roses either. The higher fuel prices have driven some older pensioners like myself to walking. But that, aside from exercise also has it's draw backs. Shoes are expensive and the soles do wear out. Cardboard or newspaper inserts are always a tug of war between the fire for heat or the shoes for walking to the food bank. One has to carefully evaluate the most needed issue as a certain amount of trips are required. The added exercise also requires more food trips as one gets hungry from the walking.
Using one of the truck tires for cut out flip flops is an option for the summer but in the winter snows this does not work well. Anyway, something will be figured out.

Well down here in the sunny south you can get flip flops for a dollar a pair, of course snow boots cost about $300.
I honestly don't know what I'm going to do yet, but everything will work out. It always does. Maybe when we get a new admin. That's what I keep hearing anyway. November 4th, everything will be wine and roses again  .

Oh Cindi!!! I'm really sorry to hear about your job!!!! It seems like we're about to enter a real depression, not just a recession. Gas prices are effecting everything, especially in agriculture. Around here, in upstate New York, farms are going under at a scarey pace. We can't make any money, feed prices have quadrupled in two years, and hay has doubled. Shipping our milk ended up costing more than we made on it, as the cheese company we delivered our milk to was 75 miles away. We actually had to stop shipping our milk, and we're negotiating with some more local cheese companies to sell our milk to. Times are bad all over.
If you head north and end up around here, you can make our place your base of operations. We've got 2 guest rooms, and you and the girls are very welcome!!! I work for NY state, and I can get you aplications for state jobs here, Right now, government jobs are about the only stable emplyement that I know of!!!
But I do know you may be having some books coming out very soon, so hopefully this will all turn around quickly for you!!!

I'm thinking about applying at the girl's shelter here. I have some experience and I'm a good mother figure for those girls--I guess. At least I'm not their age, trying to boss them around. I'm going to take a week off and see what happens.
I sure hope things improve for your farm. We'll make it. We're tough ... we're Americans.

Don't come to Tenn, its beginning to get crazy here as well.
I moved to Fla in the late 70's when it was beautiful, peaceful and you could trust your neighbors. I moved out of that gos forsaken hell hole in 94 when I had to start carrying a hand gun with me just so I could feel safe going to the local 7-11 for a gal of milk because of all the car jacking and robberies.
Tenn is not quite as bad, but your beginning to see the senseless murders on the news now, like in Fla. I am beginning to see the development and growth issues here as in Fla.
I see the writing on the wall and it won't be long before I pack up and move far away, someplace where Walmart isn't the dominant store, rapes, murders and drugs isn't the main head line news every evening... where the welcome mat is put away when the sun goes down and you can sit on your porch and listen to the hoot owls in the distance.

Handyman, we moved from Sarasota to Wauchula for the same reasons, gun fights on the corners, etc. I would still be in the Heartland if it hadn't been for the divorce. I want to get back to the country.

Egon, I don't know about Handyman, but I would love to go to Alaska. After 20 years in Florida, however, I have a feeling I would freeze up like the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz after the first snowfall. But nothing is out of the realm of possibility.

Cindi, you might be right about freezing up in Alaska, but I'll tell you a bit of a funny story, to me at least. My Dad grew up in southern Oklahoma, later moved to Texas, never had air-conditioning in his home or where he worked; worked outside a good part of his life, hated Winter and cold weather, preferred Summer and never complained about the heat. But he sold his un-air-conditioned service station and the un-air-conditioned auto parts store just north of Dallas in early 1965.
He and Mother decided to do a little traveling to see the western USA in a little pickup camper, but planned to then look for a small town with no auto parts store and start one for them. It had to be near good fishing and small game hunting, in eastern Oklahoma or western Arkansas. So in their travels, they got to Seattle, and quite by accident saw a travel agency sign about Alaska. They flew from Seattle to Anchorage, rode the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks and back, then flew back to Seattle. When they got to Seattle, they promptly drove back to Texas, told my sister she and her husband could move into their house, loaded what they could into the pickup camper and Mother's car, and moved to Anchorage in October, 1965. Dad only had to pull Mother and her car out a snowbank once on that trip.
Dad went to work on a salary for an auto parts company and they both loved Alaska. It was hard for me to imagine my Dad going tent camping and hunting in sub-zero weather. He said his Stanley stainless steel thermos would keep the coffee warm overnight at 20 below zero.  So they lived in Anchorage until he retired in late 1971 and became full time RVers, wintering in the south and returning to Alaska each summer to fish.

Cindi; the Southeast part I'm referring to has a quite different climate than much of the rest of Alaska. Rain Forest country.
Data for Sitka Alaska:
The average high temperature in August is 62 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low temperature in January is 30 degrees Fahrenheit

Yes that is true Cindi. The disadvantage is there is much rain. The advantage of this is the conflicting dark clouds, fog and shafts of sunlight are make for awesome sights.
Most of these places in South East Alaska can only be reached by air or the Alaskan Marine Highway. They are on islands or situated on the coast with no road access to anywhere.

If I could get real ambitious Cindi I'd dig out some photos of our long ago, 1987, trip thru the area on the Marine Highway.
It was the whole family with bicycles and tents. The bikes rode for free on the ferry at that time. We paid and got to sleep on the solarium deck on chaise lounge chairs in our sleeping bags on overnight stages. Some people would set up tents on the after deck.
Neat trip.

Gosh, Egon, 1987 wasn't that long ago. I've never made that trip on the water, but the first time we went to Alaska, was July, 1972, in a 1971 3/4 ton Chevy pickup pulling a 25' Holiday Vacationer travel trailer; over a thousand miles of dirt and gravel road each way. It was quite an adventure, but also a lot of hard dirty work. My wife didn't enjoy a lot of it. In fact, one night when we stopped, she just went back, got in the trailer, sat down, and cried awhile.

Bird, I'm quite familiar with highway you are talking about although I have never driven on any great lengths of it. Just a little bit of the portion around Whitehorse to Dawson City and a side detour to Mayo.
I spent the summer of 1963 working in the Yukon but we flew to Whitehorse from Edmonton in a DC6.
Yes I know 1987 was only yesterday, or so it seems!
