George:
Welcome to the forum!!
Did the same thing you are contemplating about 4 years ago on Pomme De Terre Lake in Missouri. I'll try to send you some pictures as soon as I can sort them out.
Can you fill out your profile a little more? Like your hobbies building experience Etc. Can you be a little more specific on the building? How many Sq/Ft, bedrooms bathrooms attached garage/shop? On Grid/off grid? Water/ sewage acerage Etc. It all comes in to parts of the plan.
Good Luck!

I have very little bulding experience or at least to not tackle it. My 2 son in laws and son can help me. I may hire the frame put up and then finish it on the inside as I/we can. I thought about building a shop in it to work on vehicles/ 4 wheelers and tube frame hill climbing VW buggies (Got 5 of em) . On second thought I will probably at least put a garage roll up door to have a workbench to do that and build a garage / workshop later. I am wanting at least a 40x60 building with a lean too and a place to pull 2 vehicles under it with a door to access it from inside. I would think I need at least 10-12 ft ceiling to run utilities overhead. I have been doing some research and found this site http://www.timberframemag.com/TimberFrameEnclosure.htm on building panels. I really dont know what kind of layout I want and would love to find a site with layouts or plans......I was remodeling my old house and beleve it or not a pickup truck hit it doing 60 mph and kaboom. It did a lot of damage but not unrepairable but all the improvements I would make are still not really logical in a old house. Level floors, all new wiring etc; so I think I wanta build. We will for sure do the concrete work and probably finish out the inside later. I own 6 acres and am at a very busy intersection and have thought about building in back of the the land and putting some storage rental buildings out front. I also stated about being in the propane business .... I would also like to put in a LP bottle fill business to do if i want to retire. (i'm 54) Thanks for the interest......I enjoy reading nad using this site......
My hobbies are dune buggies ..4 wheelers....Ham radio....computers....video work...photography....THX G

George, U said, "My hobbies are dune buggies ..4 wheelers....Ham radio....computers....video work...photography...."
There are other hams on board, I am N6AYR (general class) and I enjoy all the hobbies you listed but don't own a 4 wheeler.
What duner do you have. I have a Myers Manx knock off with 14 inch shortened air cooled bug pan. 1600cc. Just took delivery yesterday of Sony HD Handycam and am anxious to see the high def on the big screen 1920x1080p. I haven't done so much photo work in last few years but am getting anxious to get back to astrophoto with my Celestron Pacific cat in 8 inch (2000mm fl) with varioius SLR's, mostly Oly manual bodies like OM-1.

thanks for the shout....lets try talking some time on HF, let me know if you talk to a group sometimes. I haven't really got a group I talk to on any regular basis. About buggies....I'm 6'4" and about 250 # most of the manx styles are just to small for me. My son is 6'7 or 6 8 about 300 ( 42 waist) and he cant fit in them at all...Ha We have a place here in West KY callled LBL (Land Between Lakes) that we hill climb in. I've fooled with ( We call them tube frames) or woods buggies....I have 5 of them in different forms ....I have 1 though now that I am working on to make it street legal...It will have 2 seats in front and a small bench seat for kids etc; I have a 1915 for it..I ride an old Chenowth frame that has a 1835 and been raised all around that I like real well. Ive got a small frame complete Chenowth frame I will probably sell sometime. We went a few weekends down by Nashvilee, tn and I bought a VW bus "70" model mainly for the stock motor and 3 rib transaxle..You could throw a cat thru thr floorboard...
As far as photography I used to do lots of photography work and where we go to church we have a production studio for video. I haven't done any/ much video work in a few years till about 2 weeks ago. A good friends daughter got married and I owed him so much for helping me with events in years past I had to direct it.....What a blowout...He rented 14 tuxes for it and spent $$$$$$$$$ out the kazoo....It went well but even I was nervous after not doing it in so long. I still do a lot of slide show presentations for weddings birthdays etc; Scan in pics, add video, titles and music and burn it on DVD....I really do enjoy it more than any work i've done. I really am not into all the High Def video stuff even here at home.....I download movies for people some with torrents off the internet and never watch them...The last movie I watched at the theater was titanic and my wife will not go back with me ....She said I snored....Ha Lets try to talk on HF....tell me when and where...
OH we are starting a real neat winlink and airmail station at the fire dept i'm on....I'm having to get a crash course again in it.....Its come a long ways since I played with 600 baud packet....Ha Geogre KC4KAN
I am gonna build a house/building soon....and am interested in input ...THX

George, I have replied via PM. You should see a flashing Icon that announces that. Another ham on board (with fully functional shack) is GaryM, yet another fun guy.

Hi, George, and Hi to everyone here. I built a pole house 20 years back ( see the icon on the left) but rather than take the 22 poles I based it on to the top frame, and have the intrusion of the poles inside, I finished them at floor level and built a conventional frame from there up. The cieling is a cathedral type, using exposed scissor trusses, and works well in the hot climate here. I designed it on passive-solar principals, and run it on four solar panels. It's a very comfortable home, and needs almost no additional heating in Winter, as long as the sun is shining. I would suggest, George, that you consider the loss of space aspect inside.
