Fall strawberries
      09/06/06 09:57 PM

I'm looking for a source of strawberries for fall planting. Plant or plug is fine, but need to get them in the ground in the next month.

Yup, I ran that one. Their planting and shipping schedule say they are sold out for 2005, and will resume shipment in the spring of 2006. Also a minimum order of 1500 plants is a little more than I had in mind.

Adron, Sorry for the OLD news. I wonder why they are telling people they are too late for 2005? Most folks are probably aware it is a bit late for most any part of 2005. Maybe this is an indicaton of how often they update their site, or the care taken in doing so.

Maybe you will have to canvass a few local nurseries to develop a lead. So, you don't really like strawberries all that much, huh? 5000 plants exceeds you personal cereal topping and jam on toast requirements? Make wine with the excess or sell to the local market (just kidding.)

Good luck,

Pat

You might check around for local folks who grow them and might be needing to thin their plots. I thined my strawberry bed a couple of weeks ago and threw out any number of perfectly health plants. They were way too crowded. I think it is normal to thin the bed every year.

Chuck

Thanks. I'll take this up with all the coffee drinkers and pitch players at the local diner tomorrow morning. The one-stop shop for every thing that is going on in the local area. From where to buy a few bales of hay to the latest fishing report.
