old silo, what to do

Came over from tractorbynet, seems tractors and country go together. My question is what can you do with an old silo. I don't farm so I have no normal use for it. It does not have a top on it so it is nothing more than a straight funnel for rain and snow to collect only to seep through the wall into the basement of my barn. I plan on backfilling the wall, (previous owner had the wall replaced and did not back fill) but the silo will still collect water. The floor of the silo is approx. eight feet below grade as is the floor of the basement, and it sits in between the two doors going into the barn floor. The silo is about 30' high top to bottom, built of concrete blocks that measure 10" across, 29" tall, and 6" thick and are tapered to lock them together. There are steel rods for bands around the outside of it. It looks like the blocks are reinforced with rod as well. The silo is only about 5' away from the side of the barn so just knocking it over is risky. What I am asking is,
1. Any creative uses within reason
2. Any easy way to disassemble without destroying so I can use the blocks to make a walkway
3. Anyone who wants it, payment is taking it down without damaging the barn
I don't want the thing to go to waste whether it stays up or comes down. But I don't want to spend a mint doing either. I have access to enough equipment I could do just about anything suggested. Thanks

Just thoughts:
Can the silo blocks, starting from the top row be knocked into the silo and cleared out to make room for another row to come down.
It may mean erecting scafolding or preferably using a man lift.
There could be inherent dangers involved and perhaps a knowledable well insured contractor may be the best alternative.

In Fairfax Va. a few years ago, there was a Silo that was much taller than this. It was used in support of dairy operations on a large dairyfarm. It was converted into a residenace! It was beautifully done with 5 stories. It had only stairs to move from floor to floor but it was a very nice place. It is still in use as far as I know. With your silo maybe you can do some thing like that or just put a roof on it and some floors and have a very good storage area for tools etc. Leo

If the structure is sound, you could put a roof on it and have a very tall storage building. The perfect place to keep that oversized artificial Christmas tree

Creative idea to build a house in a silo, but also like building a house in a chimney. Fire danger is much greater so plan accordingly and especially have good escape routes.

I can understand why you want it down.
My family has taken down three of them over the years. One made of wood planks we just put a long cable around the top and pulled it over with three tractors chained together. Did not need all three but why not.
For a block silo we hired a track shovel and the operator had it down in a little over an hour. The clean up took a lot longer but a good operator made it look easy.

A farm about an hour and a half from us turned their barn into a meeting hall for gatherings, dinners, reunions, weddings and so on. They have a 30-40 foot tall silo attached to the barn in which they converted into a roofed observation tower. This is a popular attraction and land mark. The silo has windows alll the way around and looks out over the farm land. It is a great place to sit and watch the night sky with that special someone.
