Winter Greenhouse

I'm thinking about getting a greenhouse to grow some vegetables in during the winter and to start my garden seeds in. I don't know how feasible it is to grow vegetables in the winter, even in a greenhouse. Has anyone done it and had success?

I never have, but I sometimes wonder - do you have to actually create heat inside the greenhouse? I would imagine that the glass would make it cold. And, if so, would the cost be worth it?

I knew a family who had a greenhouse and you do have to heat them. I don't know how much heat it would take, but I'd guess in the winter months, it would be a lot. I'm not sure the cost would be worth it in the coldest months.
