Uses of Plastic Packages

What other uses of plastic bags other than reusing them to carry things and to make them as garbage bags? As much as possible, I don't want to use them as garbage bags as it will add pollution to the soil because plastics don't decay in many years, if ever they do.

Ladies at my local grocery store have taken the plastic bags and weaved them into carrying bags. There are a couple of websites and magazines that show you how to do this. I haven't tired myself but I have been meaning too.
